Rich, Vibrant 2011 '500' Logo Celebrates 100 Years Of Indy History
The logo for the 2011 Indianapolis 500 – the 100th anniversary of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" – was unveiled simultaneously Friday, Aug. 13 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

California Boy Teaches Classmates About Indianapolis 500 History, Tradition
On June 17, 6-year-old Californian Jesse Perin took a break from his interest in skateboarding and BMX racing to serve as an ambassador for the IZOD IndyCar Series. Wearing a makeshift suit and an Indianapolis 500 reporter's pin, Perin prepared and practiced to tell the story of the Indianapolis 500 on "Share Day" before his first-grade class at Spreckels Bilingual Magnet School in University City, Calif.

Kanaan Has 'Crazy' Time Racing On Dirt In Prelude
Three-time Brickyard 400 winner Jimmie Johnson stood in Victory Circle and IZOD IndyCar Series driver Tony Kanaan finished 24th in his dirt Late Model debut, but the real winners were four children's hospitals. Johnson led all 30 laps of the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream charity race June 9 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, a dirt oval owned by two-time Brickyard 400 winner Tony Stewart.

Indy Air Show Continues Tradition Of Aviation 100 Years Ago At IMS
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has long been a birthplace of innovation. But automobiles weren't the only vehicles to break records at IMS, as daring pilots soared to new heights in airplanes high above the Speedway in June 1910. The 2010 Indianapolis Air Show at Mt. Comfort Airport June 11-13 is a descendant of the ground-breaking events at IMS 100 years ago, when aviation pioneers such as the Wright Brothers and Walter Brookins spent a week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Franchitti Earns $2.75 Million For Win; De Silvestro Chase Rookie Of The Year
Dario Franchitti earned $2,752,055 from an overall purse of $13,592,815 for his victory May 30 in the 2010 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. Simona de Silvestro earned the prestigious Indianapolis 500 Chase Rookie of the Year Award, which includes a $25,000 bonus plus the Chase Rookie of the Year Trophy.

Franchitti Savors Sweet Second Indianapolis 500 Victory
Fifty years ago, a wreath was placed around Jim Rathmann's neck in Victory Circle at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to start another Indianapolis 500 tradition. Dario Franchitti, a motorsports historian, savors the heritage of the Speedway and soaks up the ceremony of the 500 Mile Race, which celebrates its centennial in 2011. So the Scot especially has enjoyed the customs during his two trips to Victory Circle. Though both wins have come under caution, the swig of milk (a tradition started in 1936) still tastes as sweet.

Cunningham Holds Off Kimball For Third Firestone Freedom 100 Win
